Job summary

NORTHWEST INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT is seeking a Special Education Teacher to support learning for students with disabilities. The role involves developing or modifying curricula, preparing lessons, and delivering instruction in self-contained, team, or itinerant settings while collaborating through ARD to set IEP goals.

The position requires implementing instructional programs, using a variety of teaching strategies and technology, and communicating with families.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in a related field and Texas special education certification.
• Ability to work effectively with school and community populations.
• Knowledge of ARD/IEP processes and goal setting.
• General knowledge of curriculum and instruction.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate to develop IEPs through ARD for each student.
• Implement instructional or therapeutic programs for assigned students.
• Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies reflecting student needs.
• Modify regular curricula as needed and assist in regular classes.
• Participate in ARD meetings regularly.
• Assess student learning styles and plan activities accordingly.
• Present subject matter per IEP guidelines.
• Employ varied instructional techniques to meet student needs.
• Supervise assignments for teacher aides and volunteers.
• Use technology in teaching/learning processes.
• Conduct ongoing assessments of student achievement.
