Job summary

You will teach entry-level skills in a special education setting at the Youthful Offender System in Pueblo, educating incarcerated students through classroom instruction aligned with Colorado Department of Education standards.

The role focuses on practical skills, motivation, and career development to support reintegration, with emphasis on safety, record-keeping, and collaboration with the teaching team.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Education or closely related field.
• Colorado Professional/Initial Teacher License with Special Education Endorsement or eligibility.
• Out-of-state license allowed with license transfer requirements.

Responsibilities

• Teach inmate students individually or in groups to promote academic performance.
• Assess educational needs and set short/long-term goals including high school progression.
• Develop and adapt lessons based on student abilities and progress.
• Use multi-sensory instructional approaches and appropriate assessments.
• Collaborate with teaching staff and maintain accurate records.
• Act as academic and vocational advisor to students.
