Job summary

The State of Colorado seeks a dedicated instructor to provide High School Equivalency (HSE) and Special Education instruction at Centennial Correctional Facility South in Canon City. You will deliver instruction, train inmates, and assess learning progress using the Colorado Department of Education curricula.

You will develop competency-based teaching aids, monitor outcomes, maintain records, and participate in ongoing training.

Qualifications

• Provide High School Equivalency (HSE) and Special Education instruction within an adult correctional system.
• Deliver instruction, training and assessments in accordance with CDE approved curriculum.
• Oversee the Cognitive Education Program.

Responsibilities

• Teach and mentor inmate students in classrooms promoting academic performance.
• Determine educational needs and set short and long-term goals.
• Develop and implement competency-based teaching aids and training materials.
• Lecture on theories, concepts and terminology.
• Administer assessments to measure progress and course completion requirements.
• Prepare reports and maintain records including grades and attendance.
• Observe and evaluate inmate work, provide feedback and suggest improvements.
• Document achievements and contact hours toward certificate completion.
• Participate in conferences, seminars and training to stay current.
• Commit to teamwork and collaboration to improve programs.
• Contribute to safety and security of the facility and offender management.
