Spring Branch Independent School District seeks a Special Education Teacher Assistant for the TOPS program, serving students ages 18–21. You will support instructional activities and classroom routines under the direction of the Director of Special Education.

Responsibilities include assisting with records, preparing materials, supervising students in job-related settings, and participating in professional growth. This non-exempt paraprofessional role involves 188 days of work.

Qualifications

• Must have 48 college hours or an equivalent diploma and pass a district assessment.
• Educational Aide Certification is required.
• Texas CDL to transport students is preferred.

Primary Purpose: Assist young adults and teachers in the special education TOPS program, which is a program focusing on job training.

Education/Certification

• Minimum of 48 college hours or high school diploma/equivalent plus pass a District Assessment.
• Educational Aide Certification.
• Obtained or Ability to Obtain a Texas Commercial Driver License to transport students preferred.

• Ability to work with young adults using appropriate interpersonal skills.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Support

• Assist in carrying out the instructional program under the supervision of teaching personnel.
• Assist in maintaining student records.

• Follow teacher instruction and guidance.

Student Management

• Assist in maintaining student records.
• Assist in supervising student grooming activities.
• Supervise students in job related settings.

Working Conditions

Mental Demands

• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Work with frequent interruptions.
• This position requires regular in‑person interaction with the public.

Physical Demands

• Repetitive hand motions.
• Prolonged use of the computer.
• Frequent sitting, stooping, bending, pushing and pulling.
• Moving small stacks of textbooks, boxes, equipment and other campus equipment.
• Physical capacity to lift, transfer and otherwise assist students with disabilities (e.g. ability to lift 50 lbs.).
