Job summary

ChanceLight Behavioral Health, Therapy, & Education is hiring a Special Education Teacher for elementary learners in an Amboy Township, IL learning center. The role emphasizes delivering IEP-aligned instruction, adaptive curricula, and targeted supports within a collaborative team.

You will design dynamic lessons, utilize educational software, and establish engaging learning environments that meet diverse student needs while aligning with state standards.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or higher in education, special education or a closely related field
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL professional educator (PEL) credential
• Licensed currently or in the process of obtaining an IL state special education (SSE) or learning behavior specialist (LBS1) credential
• Ability to obtain and maintain certification in company approved crisis management training
• Prior experience with curriculum development, differentiation and instruction; preferably in an alternative, special education and/or behavioral health program setting
• Prior experience and knowledge in special education services and compliance for students with learning disabilities, emotional disturbance and/or challenging behaviors
• Prior experience with IEPs and developing/implementing education plans for at-risk students
• Proficiency in motivating and having critical conversations with students toward goals
• Strong oral and written communication, organization, conflict resolution, multitasking, problem solving, and decision-making
• Ability to think quickly and calmly in emergencies and make independent decisions
• Knowledge of technology including instructional technology, MS Office, database entry and basic office equipment

Responsibilities

• Create an inclusive, collaborative classroom environment involving students, parents, colleagues and administrators
• Establish a respectful climate focusing on social development, accountability and PBIS
• Implement and reinforce PBIS strategies, classroom consequences and rewards
• Track and report student progress with accurate files and comprehensive reports
• Deliver differentiated instruction solo or in co‑teaching to meet IEP goals
• Adapt curricular content to diverse learning needs and guide differentiation methods
• Utilize varied instructional methods and educational software to support diverse learners
• Manage student caseloads with IEPs, goals and interventions
• Prepare detailed lesson plans aligned to curriculum standards
• Maintain an organized, safe, welcoming classroom environment
• Stay informed on current research-based practices in special education
• Respond to feedback from evaluations and pursue ongoing professional growth
• Support school community with additional duties as assigned
