Qualifications

• Valid Massachusetts Special Education teaching license appropriate to the grade level and assignment or eligibility for a waiver.

Compensation is determined by candidate qualifications and tenure, in accordance with the READS Teachers Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Salary is commensurate with education and experience, typically ranging from $60,147.00 to $100,721.00 yearly.

Licensure

MA DESE License, Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities, 5-12 is preferred. Other licenses such as English, 5-12, History/Social Science, 5-12, and other related fields making individuals eligible for an educator license waiver may be considered.

Qualifications and Required Skills

• Commitment to providing equitable, student-centered, and strengths-based educational opportunities.
• Willingness to attend training from the Crisis Prevention Institute: Nonviolent Crisis Intervention certification required.
• Trained or willing to be trained in trauma-informed care, restorative practices, or other evidence-based behavioral approaches a plus.

Working Conditions and Physical Demands

The successful candidate must:

• Be physically capable of performing all essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation. Physical demands may include standing, walking, bending, kneeling, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, assisting with the physical management of students, and accompanying and supervising students on field trips and other off-site activities as required.
• Be able to safely implement approved physical intervention and restraint techniques, when necessary, with students up to age 22, in accordance with READS Collaborative policies, required training, and applicable state regulations.

Welcome to READS Academy

READS Academy is a substantially separate, day-school program that offers therapeutic, behavioral, and academic services to students in Grades K-12 who demonstrate a range of emotional/behavioral/learning/neuro-develomental disabilities. The Academy is a highly structured program that offers individualized and small-group academic instruction, individual and group counseling, and behavioral support and intervention. Ancillary therapeutic services such as speech/language therapy, occupational/physical therapy, adaptive physical education are also available. As a public school program, READS Academy follows the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks, and all students participate in MCAS testing. The school operates on a 10-month calendar with an optional 6-week summer component.
