Job summary

Hurley Middle School in Seekonk, MA is seeking a Special Education Teacher for a long-term substitute role in a small-group program for students with learning disabilities in grades 6–8. The position requires a valid Massachusetts teaching license in Moderate or Severe Disabilities and a Bachelor's degree.

The teacher will develop developmentally appropriate instruction, coordinate IEPs, assessments, and community-based activities, and collaborate with families and staff.

Qualifications

• Licensed or eligible for licensure in Massachusetts for Teacher of Students with Moderate Disabilities or Severe Disabilities
• Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university
• Demonstrated ability to develop meaningful, engaging learning for students with cognitive, social, and emotional challenges
• Ability to develop instruction aligned with Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core
• Understanding of community-based learning and adult independent living skills
• Valid Driver’s License with a safe driving record

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership and manage the small-group classroom team, including supervision of paraprofessional(s).
• Provide differentiated instruction in core subjects (math, English, science, social studies).
• Develop long-term and weekly plans including instructional, pre-vocational, and recreational experiences.
• Conduct standardized educational evaluations (WIAT-4) and write reports based on results and transition assessments.
• Write reports, run IEP meetings, develop IEPs, maintain data collection and progress demonstrations.
• Attend IEP meetings for prospective students and coordinate with district specialists.
