Responsibilities

The Special Education Teacher will provide individual or group educational instruction. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to: consulting with classroom teachers or other service providers, conducting initial evaluations, and monitoring student progress through daily logs, quarterly reports, and annual review testing. This role serves children with various physical, behavioral, and developmental challenges, ranging in age from birth to 21 years old.

Responsibilities/Accountabilities:

1. Utilize assessment tools to gather information for determining eligibility, goals, and support plans.
2. Deliver specialized individual and group instruction, adhering to mandated IEPs and ISFPs. Collaborate with team members and therapists (OT, PT, SLP, etc.) to ensure a holistic approach to education.
3. Assess and document each student’s progress through formal and informal measures.
4. Prepare annual review reports and progress summaries in compliance with program deadlines.
5. Provide support and education to parents and caregivers.
6. Attend relevant meetings related to service provision and student support.
7. Plan and prepare the learning environment with necessary materials and supplies.
8. Implement daily lesson plans consistently, following the schedule.
9. Follow safety guidelines and directives from the school district.
10. Assist with communication devices and assistive technology as needed.
11. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

This position requires a Master’s degree from an accredited education program and a current special education teacher certification meeting New York State Department of Education requirements. The candidate must be prepared to teach students with diverse learning needs, including learning disabilities, social/emotional disorders, intellectual disabilities, physical disabilities, autism, or traumatic brain injury.
