Job Description

Required Certificates and Licenses: Michigan Teaching Certification Required. Must have a Special Education endorsement.

Residency Requirements: This position is virtual and open to residents of the 50 states and Washington, D.C.

The Middle School Special Education Teacher is a state-certified teacher responsible for delivering specific course content in an online environment. The teacher must provide instruction, support, and guidance, manage the learning process, and focus on students’ individual needs as defined by each student’s IEP. The teacher works actively with students and parents to advance learning and is responsible for compliance documentation for students with special needs.

This position is for the 2025/2026 school year. It offers a base salary around $51,000 plus the potential for a performance bonus.

Essential Functions

• Ensure all services are provided as per IEPs, including communication with parents and related staff.
• Develop and maintain compliant IEPs and related documentation.
• Lead collaborative IEP meetings.
• Use resources to ensure accommodations and modifications for students with disabilities.
• Make modifications to lessons and assessments as specified by IEPs.
• Ensure inclusion and success of students in general education settings.
• Monitor student progress and document all contacts and interventions.
• Analyze data to inform instruction and provide engaging learning experiences.
• Establish positive rapport with families and communicate regularly.
• Support parents and students with instructional issues and troubleshooting.
• Travel up to 20% for face-to-face activities as required.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree
• Active state teaching license with a Special Education endorsement
• Ability to clear a background check

• Ability to interpret and use student data to drive instruction
• Willingness to receive coaching and adapt to change
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
• Strong communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with the target age group
• Experience supporting adults and children with technology

Compensation & Benefits

Salary range: $26,104 - $68,361.27, with potential bonuses. Benefits may include health coverage, retirement contributions, and paid time off, depending on eligibility.
