Job description

South Umpqua School District has an opening atSouth Umpqua HighSchool fora Special Education Teacherfor the 2026/2027 school year.

Douglas County is located in Southern Oregon along the I-5 corridor. Our School District consists of 5 schools serving students from the communities of Canyonville, Myrtle Creek, and Tri-City.

Duties/Assignment:

The primary purpose of this position is the instruction and supervision of assigned students keeping within the law, board policies, and administrative regulations. A primary focus is the establishment of a positive learning environment that promotes a high level of achievement while considering the developmental level of the individual student. Instruction and supervision include student guidance, classroom management, and knowledge in subject areas taught and District standards. This is demonstrated by appropriate curriculum design, instructional practices, and student progress assessments.

Qualifications:
  • Applicant must hold or qualify for an Oregon Teaching Certificate, with subject area endorsement and grade level authorization.
  • Criminal history clearance.

This is a full-time benefited position. Benefit package includes medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance; employer-paid PERS, as well as a tuition reimbursement program.

Full time special educations teachers receive an annual stipend of $3,000 for IEP meetings and planning beyond the normal work day.
