Job summary

Independent School District 196 is seeking a Special Education Resource Teacher at Valley Middle School - STEM for the 2026-27 school year. The 1.0 FTE position focuses on delivering inclusive instruction and IEP-based supports within the least restrictive environment.

The role requires licensure in MN Special Education and a commitment to culturally responsive practices, collaboration with staff and families, and supporting students with diverse needs to achieve equitable outcomes.

Qualifications

• Licensed by the Minnesota Department of Education in ABS, ASD, EBD, DD, or LD (Dual licensure preferred).
• Experience working with diverse cultures, races and socioeconomic backgrounds.
• Growth mindset and ability to accelerate growth using strengths-based model.
• Ability to work effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Ability to relate positively to students, staff and community.
• Experience in a school setting or with ages birth through 21.
• Ability to facilitate IEPs and Behavior Support Plans.
• Collaborate with nursing staff to support health tasks.
• Experience directing paraprofessionals and training them.
• Knowledge of best practices in special education.
• Understanding of comprehensive evaluation.
• Understanding of laws and regulations of special education.

Responsibilities

• Teach curriculum and support students with disabilities in the least restrictive environment.
• Develop and demonstrate culturally responsive practices for equitable outcomes.
• Support students with emotional regulation and social-emotional skills.
• Use assistive technology to access tools and instruction.
• Collaborate with staff, parents, and professionals to plan and support students.
• Carry out responsibilities per master contract.
