Job summary

Barber Preparatory Academy in Highland Park, MI, seeks a Special Education Coordinator to support Intervention Specialists, manage rosters, ensure compliance, and provide PD. This role collaborates with the SPED Manager, Principals, and enrollment staff to create appropriate programming for transfer students and to support state reporting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Special Education; Master’s degree preferred.
• Minimum 3 years of experience in Special Education.
• Current Special Education teacher or administrator certification.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suite products.
• Ability to handle confidential information with sound judgment.
• Demonstrates reliable, dependable work ethic.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to lead and manage teams.

Responsibilities

• Attend trainings offered by county agencies and department of education.
• Develop and facilitate professional development on Special Education topics.
• Coordinate with enrollment team to assign students to IS caseloads.
• Review SPED documents, including IEPs, for compliance and quality; provide coaching.
• Act as district representative at IEP meetings.
• Assist Intervention Specialists with complex parent communications.
• Monitor compliance with timelines and data collection.
• Observe Intervention Specialists and provide feedback.
• Collaborate with Principals to align general and special education programming.
• Gather data for state reporting with EMIS Coordinator/State Reporting Manager.
• Participate in ACCEL SPED trainings and meetings.
