Job summary

Muskegon Heights Public School Academy is seeking a dedicated SPED Coordinator to lead and monitor all aspects of special education, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal mandates. The role includes reviewing referrals and establishing procedures for staff and external agencies.

The candidate must hold a Michigan Administrator Certificate, MDE approval for director or supervisor, and a Master’s degree in special education, with a minimum of four years of experience.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree in special education or equivalent.
• Must hold a valid Michigan Administrator Certificate and MDE approval for director or supervisor of Special Education.

Responsibilities

• Ensure compliance with state and federal mandates including IDEIA and ESSA; develop administrative procedures and prepare state and federal reports.
• Review confidential student files to monitor compliance with regulations.
• Serve as contact for parents, teachers, principals, and external agencies.
• Conduct in-service training for special education staff.
• Assist principals with evaluations of special education staff.
• Provide and maintain child count information as required by regulations.
• Collaborate to adapt policies for special education needs.
• Supervise effectiveness of the special education program.
