Job summary

DeKalb County School District is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional for Fernbank ES. The role focuses on supporting teachers and students with academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs in both classroom and community settings.

Ideal candidates will collaborate with educational teams, implement lesson plans, and maintain clear written and verbal communication to promote high expectations for all students.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED and pass the GACE Paraprofessional Assessment.
• Associate degree or higher from a Georgia PSC approved accredited college or university.
• Minimum of sixty (60) semester hours or ninety (90) quarter hours with a GPA of 2.0+ from a Georgia PSC approved college.

Responsibilities

• Assists students with physical needs including feeding, toileting, lifting, and mobility.
• Assists students with health care procedures including hygiene and medications as needed for daily care.
• Provides small groups and/or individualized instruction to students per lesson plans.
• Monitors students before/after school and during non-instructional transitions.
• Assists teachers with classroom management to promote an effective learning environment.
• Assists teachers with student performance assessments and other recordkeeping tasks.
• Assists teachers with development/organization of instructional materials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education

High School diploma or GED and GACE Paraprofessional Assessment

60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours GPA 2.0+ from Georgia PSC approved college
