Qualifications

• High School diploma is required and must meet paraprofessional requirements under No Child Left Behind.
• Completion of 48 semester hours of college credits.
• Successful completion of WorkKeys assessments and 96 contact hours of staff development.
• Preschool assistants must have an associate's degree in Early Childhood Development.
• Must obtain certification in Crisis Intervention Program and renew as required.

Responsibilities

• Assist a teacher of students with disabilities under supervision.
• Provide one-on-one academic and behavioral support.
• Assist with housekeeping, clerical duties, and maintenance of equipment.
• Maintain safety and monitor student behavior; assist with crisis prevention.
• Obtain and maintain basic first aid and CPR certification.
• Assist with adapting instruction and monitoring effectiveness of teaching.
• Maintain standardized records of student progress.
• Perform various clerical duties and prepare classroom materials.
