Job summary

Prince George County Public Schools seeks a Special Education Paraprofessional to provide one-to-one personal care, academic and behavioral support for students with disabilities in general and special education settings.

Under the supervision of the Principal and Special Education Teacher, you will assist with implementing IEPs, support behavior and health plans, help with data collection, and supervise students during meals, transitions, and non-academic activities to promote a safe, inclusive

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED
• ParaPro score of 455 or better
• Experience with students with disabilities
• Effective communication with adults and children
• Understanding of childhood development
• Familiarity with educational software or willingness to learn
• Current First Aid and CPR certification

Responsibilities

• Provide instructional reinforcement under the direction of the classroom teacher when executing lesson plans and IEPs
• Assist with behavior management and/or medical management plans
• Assist in data collection as needed
• Assist with personal care needs (toileting, changing clothes)
• Support students in cafeteria lines and during meals
• Prep foods and assist or feed students during breakfast and lunch
• Assist with transfers and use of mobility equipment under supervision
• Maintain confidentiality of student records
• Assist with daily personal health maintenance tasks
• Serve as bus, cafeteria, or hall duty
• Assist with equipment usage (standards, gait trainers, devices) under supervision
• Be a positive, nurturing guide for students
• Model professional standards and uphold school rules
• Supervise students in instructional and non-academic activities
• Participate in planning with learning team and communicate with parents/school officials

Education

High school diploma or GED

ParaPro Assessment score 455+

First Aid and CPR certification

Proven experience working with students with disabilities

Effective communication with adults and children

Understanding of childhood development

Familiarity with educational software
