Job summary

Westfield Public Schools is seeking a Special Education Classroom Paraprofessional (Long Term Sub) at Westfield River Elementary School in Westfield, MA to support teachers by assisting individual students or small groups in meeting program goals.

The role involves helping with daily routines, supervising during drills, lunch, and field trips, and collaborating with staff to implement instructional strategies. Immediate start; pay is $16/hour; full-time position.

Qualifications

• Possession of an Associates degree or higher; or 48 credit hours from a higher education institution; or passage of the ParaPro or Work Keys assessment.
• Demonstrated interest in children and education.
• Evidence of the emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved.
• Ability to communicate and work successfully with staff and students.

Responsibilities

• Assist the student(s) to whom assigned in physical tasks such as dressing, moving between rooms, toileting, feeding, etc.
• Work with individuals or small groups to reinforce learning of material or skills.
• Assist teacher in devising strategies based on individual needs and abilities.
• Establish a supportive relationship with students and supervise during drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Assist with supervision of playground, lavatories, cafeteria, and bus loading activities; lunch, snack, and clean-up routines.
• Participate in in-service training programs.
