Job summary

Westfield Intermediate School in Westfield, MA seeks a 1:1 Special Education Paraprofessional to assist teachers and support students with physical and emotional needs. Responsibilities include helping students with daily tasks, reinforcing lessons in small groups, and implementing teacher-devised strategies to meet goals.

The role involves supervision, lunch and bathroom duties, and adherence to school policies. Immediate start; full-time position with a salary of $18 to $28 per hour.

Qualifications

• Possession of Associates degree or higher; or 48 credit hours from higher education institution; or passage of the ParaPro or Work Keys assessment.
• Demonstrated interest in children and education.
• Evidence of emotional maturity and stability for the specialized work involved.
• Ability to communicate and work successfully with staff and students.
• Some positions may require diapering, toileting, lifting and/or feeding.

Responsibilities

• Assist the student(s) to whom assigned in physical tasks (e.g., dressing, moving, toileting, feeding).
• Works with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning.
• Assists in devising strategies based on individual needs and abilities.
• Establishes a supportive relationship with students without fostering intense emotional involvement.
• Assists with supervision during drills, assemblies, play periods, and field trips.
• Assist with supervision of playgrounds, lavatories, cafeteria, and bus loading activities.
• Assists with lunch, snack, and clean-up routines.
• Participates in in-service training programs.
• Any other duties as assigned by the Superintendent or designee.
