Job summary

Westfield Public Schools is seeking a qualified applicant for a LONG TERM SUBSTITUTE Special Education Teacher at Westfield Intermediate School in Westfield, MA. The role reports to the Building Principal and Special Education Program Supervisor and involves creating IEPs, collaboration with related service providers, and implementing district policies.

The position emphasizes planning individualized instruction, using assessments to guide instruction, and maintaining thorough student records.

Qualifications

• Certified or certifiable as a teacher of Moderate or Severe Disabilities in Massachusetts.
• Experience with functional assessments (FBA) and behavioral intervention plans (BIP’s).
• Knowledge of multi-grade elementary curriculum; ABA experience preferred.
• Strong classroom management skills and ability to lead staff.

Responsibilities

• Plan a program of study meeting individual student needs.
• Prepare individualized education plans (IEPs).
• Collaborate with school-based related service providers.
• Collaborate with team on curriculum and student needs.
• Assess educational needs using standardized tools and informal assessments.
• Maintain complete records of re-evaluation periods and parent communication.
• Integrate technology into instruction and provide differentiated instruction.
• Follow department and district policies and write quarterly progress reports.
• Create and follow goals for IEPs and behavior plans with integrity.
• Plan and supervise paraprofessionals; perform other duties as assigned.
