Job summary

School District 27J is seeking a Special Education Paraprofessional for intensive support at Southlawn Elementary. The role provides direct academic and behavioral assistance to students with severe disabilities, including modifying materials and offering personal care as delegated by the School Nurse.

The position follows a 9-month schedule (8.5 hours/day, Tue–Fri) with benefits eligibility and a starting rate of $21.66 per hour, depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret Behavior Intervention Plans, IEPs, and handbooks.
• Ability to collect data, write routine reports and simple correspondences.
• Ability to apply basic math concepts, including algebra and geometry.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and academic/behavioral support for students with disabilities in assigned classrooms.
• Modify materials and classroom environment under supervision.
• Maintain student records and required forms.
• De-escalate students using CPI methods and follow Behavior Intervention Plans.
