Job summary

School District 27J seeks a paraprofessional to provide direct academic and behavioral support for students with severe disabilities in special education and general education settings.

Role includes modification of materials, data collection, and collaboration with teachers and specialists. Requires physical capability and background checks; benefits eligible. On-site, 9-month schedule, 8.5 hours per day, Tue–Fri, starting at $21.66/hour.

Qualifications

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as IEPs and Behavior Intervention Plans.
• Ability to collect data, write routine reports and simple correspondences.
• Ability to apply concepts of basic math including algebra/geometry.
• Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 100 pounds.
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred or obtainable within 2 months of hire.
• Must pass post offer/pre-employment physical and background checks.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct instruction and supervision for students with social/emotional disabilities in IEP contexts.
• Modify academic materials or classroom environment under supervision.
• Identify and facilitate peer relationships and natural supports.
• Monitor safety in lunchroom, playground and other areas.
• Maintain required forms and records.
• De-escalate students using approved CPI measures.
• Communicate observations and progress with teachers and therapists.
• Assist teachers with minor clerical duties.
• Attend trainings and student staffings as required.
• Collaborate with paraprofessionals and follow special education team directions.
• Follow routines and schedules for consistency.
• Other duties as assigned.
