Job summary

Gwinnett County Public Schools seeks a Paraprofessional Educator for Special Education to support students with emotional/behavioral disorders in Resource and Self-Contained settings. You will assist in implementing IEPs, monitor behavior, and help with classroom activities.

The role requires a high school diploma or GED, plus PSC Paraprofessional certification or approved college hours, and experience in licensed child care is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum HS diploma or GED with Praxis Parapro or GACE Parapro requirements or 60 semester/90 quarter hours from PSC-approved college/university
• Paraprofessional Educator certificate issued by the Georgia PSC (PSC Required)
• Experience in a licensed child care environment preferred

Responsibilities

• Provide support to instructional program within an assigned classroom, assisting in supervision, care, and instruction of special needs students
• Adapt classroom activities and materials to reinforce IEP objectives and facilitate participation
• Administer immediate first aid and medical assistance under health care professional guidance
• Administer tests, homework, and make-up work to support teachers
• Assist medically fragile or physically disabled students with personal hygiene
• Confer with special education and regular education teachers on student progress and IEP objectives
• Implement and collect data under supervision of teachers and IEP committees
• Monitor students to provide a safe, positive learning environment
• Maintain records and support functions (data collection, attendance, etc.)
• Provide instruction in various activities to reinforce instructional objectives and IEP plans
• Respond to emergencies and apply crisis intervention procedures as trained
• Assist with monitoring duties in hallways, lunchroom, restrooms, and bus duty
• Perform other duties as assigned
