Job summary

Petersburg City Public Schools seeks a dedicated Special Education Paraprofessional to assist students with disabilities at Walnut Hill Elementary School. The role involves supporting instructional activities, testing, and classroom management under the supervision of the Principal and classroom teacher.

Responsibilities include aiding teachers with strategies tailored to individual students, supervising classroom tasks, and participating in in-service training.

Qualifications

• Empathy for students with disabilities and the ability to support diverse learning needs.
• Ability to help transfer and reposition students and assist with wheelchairs.
• Clear communication with children who have disabilities (deaf, blind, nonverbal, etc.).
• Patience and ability to work with children and faculty in a school setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist teachers with instructional activities and testing.
• Support learning by reinforcing materials and strategies.
• Provide clerical support and supervise make-up work under supervision.
• Serve as a resource to General Education teachers and assist with activities and field trips.
• Support maintenance of the teaching area and preparations of materials.
