Job summary

Irving Independent School District seeks a Special Education Aide to support students with disabilities in a functional LIFE environment. You will assist a certified teacher, support in personal care and behavior management, and help implement classroom programs under the principal's supervision.

This position, 187-day schedule under Pay Grade 035, requires Educational Aide I certification and a high school diploma or GED.

Qualifications

• Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate
• High School Diploma or GED
• Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities

Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality
• Keep accurate records of students with disabilities and furnish to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
• Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, and community
• Assist teacher in maintaining, copying, transferring confidential folders as required
• Assist special needs students with individual tasks as may be required including, but not limited to, transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, feeding, bathroom needs, personal hygiene
• Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention
• Assume responsibility for learning and adapting to each student’s special medical, physical, communicative, emotional, and safety needs through in-service and/or teacher direction
• Work with and/or prepare materials for individual students or small groups to develop skills through instructional activities under teacher direction
• Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
• Uphold and enforce school rules, administrative regulations, and legal/local board policies
• Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned
