Job summary

Qualifications

• Ability to work with children with disabilities
• Follow verbal and written instructions
• Effective communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
• Experience working with children/students, parents, or persons with disabilities

Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality
• Keep accurate records of students with disabilities and furnish to appropriate personnel in a timely manner
• Assist in supervising students throughout the school day, both inside and outside the classroom, including lunchroom, bus duty, playground, and community
• Assist teacher in maintaining, copying, transferring confidential folders as required
• Assist special needs students with individual tasks including transferring to/from wheelchairs, lifting, positioning, feeding, bathroom needs, personal hygiene
• Assist in managing the behavior of students and crisis intervention
• Adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, emotional, and safety needs under direction
• Prepare materials for individual students or small groups to develop skills under teacher direction
• Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems of individual students
• Uphold school rules and policies
• Participate in staff development and meetings
