Job summary

IRVING INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT seeks a Special Education Aide for Learning in a Functional Environment (LIFE) to support students with disabilities under the direction of a certified teacher and the principal. This nonexempt, 187‑day position requires assisting in classroom programs and personal care needs.

The successful candidate will work with children with disabilities, follow instructions, and maintain accurate records while contributing to a safe, respectful learning environment.

Qualifications

• Educational Aide I Paraprofessional Certificate and a High School Diploma or GED.
• Ability to work well with children with disabilities.
• Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.

Responsibilities

• Maintain confidentiality.
• Keep accurate records of students with disabilities and furnish to appropriate personnel promptly.
• Assist in supervising students throughout the school day inside and outside the classroom.
• Assist teacher in maintaining and transferring confidential folders as required.
• Assist special needs students with individual tasks including transfers, lifting, positioning, feeding, and personal hygiene.
• Assist in managing student behavior and crisis intervention.
• Adapt to each student’s medical, physical, communicative, emotional, and safety needs.
• Prepare materials for individual students or small groups under teacher direction.
• Keep the teacher informed of any special needs or problems.
• Uphold school rules and district policies; participate in staff development and meetings.
