Job summary

The Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant-Special Education to support students with IEPs across elementary, middle, or high school settings. You will assist in planning, implementing instructional strategies, and coordinating with licensed staff to foster an inclusive learning environment.

Responsibilities include supporting behavioral plans, preparing materials, facilitating transitions, and promoting student independence with assistive tech and safety measures

Qualifications

• Proficient with Microsoft Office and Google Apps.
• Ability to protect the confidentiality of student information per FERPA.
• Ability to work in a team and collaborate effectively.
• Ability to motivate students and manage classroom activities.
• Ability to maintain safety and supervise students.
• Strong written and oral communication skills.
• Ability to build relationships with staff, students and parents.

Responsibilities

• Assists teachers with coordinating instructional programs for special education students and implements IEP-related strategies.
• Supports behavioral intervention plans and classroom routines.
• Prepares materials and ensures resources are available for lessons.
• Demonstrates professionalism and maintains a calm, respectful classroom environment.
• Promotes independence and self-determination for students.
• Assists with low- and high-tech assistive technology in the classroom.
• Maintains confidential records and reports as required.
• Participates in district staff development and trainings.
