Job summary

Wake County Public School System seeks an Instructional Assistant-Special Education to support teachers in elementary, middle, or high schools. You will assist with IEPs, classroom routines, and assistive technology to help students access learning.

The role emphasizes confidentiality, collaboration with staff, and the ability to supervise students, monitor safety, and help transitions between classes.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• For Title I schools: meet ESSA requirements (6 semester hours or 2 years early childhood experience).

Responsibilities

• Provides support and assistance to teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students, including familiarity with student’s IEP.
• Assists teachers with strategies related to the implementation of students’ behavioral intervention plans.
• Aids teachers with planning and organizing, evaluating instructional activities, developing classroom procedures, and preparing materials; ensures materials are readily available.
• Demonstrates professional and technical skills to support student achievement and the school program.
• Maintains confidentiality and fosters a positive classroom environment.
• Coordinates and facilitates student transitions between classes; assists with health care needs as required.
