Job summary

Southwest Allen County Metropolitan School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant for Mild Intervention at Aboite Elementary School. The position runs 9 months, 5.5 hours per day with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch; not eligible for benefits. Two positions are available and training will be provided after hire.

The role supports the Mild Disabilities teacher, assisting with assignments, behavior plans, and instructional materials, in both Mild Disabilities and general education settings.

Qualifications

• 60+ college credit hours or associate's degree preferred.
• Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to take direction, initiative and dependability.
• Patience and genuine interest in education of students.
• Awareness and respect for student diversity; confidentiality required.

Responsibilities

• Supports and implements the program of the Mild Disabilities teacher.
• Acts as an extension of the teacher in the Mild Disabilities classroom.
• Acts as an extension of the teacher in general education classrooms.
• Assists with assignments and implements behavior plans.
• Prepares instructional materials according to the teacher's direction.
• Other responsibilities as needed and determined by the Special Education Director.
