Job summary

Southwest Allen County Schools is seeking a classroom assistant to support Mild Disabilities and general education classrooms. The role acts as an extension of the teacher, assists with assignments, and helps implement behavior plans under direction.

Requires two years of college (60+ hours) or an associate degree preferred, plus strong communication and reliability. Training will be provided on hiring; experience with students from diverse backgrounds is valued.

Qualifications

• Completion of two years of study (60+ hours) at an institution of higher education or associate degree preferred.
• Previous classroom assistant experience desirable.
• Effective communication skills; ability to take direction; initiative and dependability in carrying out assignments.
• Patience and genuine interest in education of students; awareness and respect for student diversity.
• Clerical skills, flexibility, and confidentiality required. Training for this position will be implemented upon hiring.

Job description

Terms of Employment

This is a 9 month position for 5.5 hours/day (plus 1/2 hour unpaid lunch). This position is not eligible for benefits. Pay range: $16.58-$24.67 depending on experience.

Purpose

Supports and implements the program of the Mild Disabilities teacher. Acts as an extension of the teacher in the Mild Disabilities and general education classrooms through an integrated program. Assists with assignments and implements behavior plans. Prepare the necessary instructional materials according to the teacher's direction. Other responsibilities as needed and determined by the Special Education Director.

Qualifications

• Completion of two years of study (60+ hours) at an institution of higher education or possession of an associate's (or higher) degree is preferred. Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable. Candidates must have a sincere interest in working with students in the learning process. Effective communication skills. Ability to take direction. Initiative and dependability in carrying out assignments. Patience and genuine interest in education of students. Awareness and respect for student diversity.
