Job summary

Southwest Allen County Metropolitan School District is seeking an Instructional Assistant for Mild Intervention at Aboite Elementary School. The position runs 9 months, 5.5 hours per day with a 1/2 hour unpaid lunch; not eligible for benefits. Two positions are available and training will be provided after hire.

The role supports the Mild Disabilities teacher, assisting with assignments, behavior plans, and instructional materials, in both Mild Disabilities and general education settings.

Qualifications

• 60+ college credit hours or associate's degree preferred.
• Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to take direction, initiative and dependability.
• Patience and genuine interest in education of students.
• Awareness and respect for student diversity; confidentiality required.

Responsibilities

Terms of Employment

Purpose

Supports and implements the program of the Mild Disabilities teacher. Acts as an extension of the teacher in the Mild Disabilities and general education classrooms through an integrated program. Assists with assignments and implements behavior plans. Prepare the necessary instructional materials according to the teacher's direction. Other responsibilities as needed and determined by the Special Education Director.

Qualifications

Completion of two years of study (60+ hours) at an institution of higher education or possession of an associate's (or higher) degree is preferred. Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable. Candidates must have a sincere interest in working with students in the learning process. Effective communication skills. Ability to take direction. Initiative and dependability in carrying out assignments. Patience and genuine interest in education of students. Awareness and respect for student diversity. Clerical skills, flexibility, and confidentiality required. Training for this position will be implemented upon hiring.
