Job summary

Southwest Allen County Metropolitan School District is seeking a dedicated LT Sub - Instructional Assistant - Pre-K at Aboite Elementary School in Indiana. This temporary role supports the special education and general education teams under the direction of a teacher to promote student learning and life skills.

The position runs 3.25 hours per day, four days a week (Mon–Thu) through December 1, 2026, with no benefits.

Qualifications

• Two years of study (60+ hours) at an institution of higher education or possession of an associate's (or higher) degree is preferred.
• Previous experience as a classroom assistant desirable.
• Candidates must have a sincere interest in working with students in the learning process.
• Effective communication skills.
• Ability to take direction.
• Initiative and dependability in carrying out assignments.
• Patience and genuine interest in education of students.

Responsibilities

• Provides direct and indirect support to promote student learning in special education and general education settings.
• Prepares instructional materials according to teacher direction to implement IEPs.
• Attends community-based instructional activities to help students build life/vocational skills.
• Implements behavior intervention plans when necessary.
• May assist with personal needs of students and transitions (e.g., wheelchair, therapy equipment, bus).
• Other duties as determined by the Special Education Office.

Terms of Employment

This is a temporary position through December 1, 2026, for 3.25hours/day (AM) (plus 1/2 hour unpaid lunch), 4 days/week (M-Th). This position is not eligible for benefits.

Purpose

Provides both direct and indirect support to promote student learning in the special education and general education settings as directed by the special needs teacher(s). Prepares the necessary instructional materials according to the teacher's direction to implement individual education programs (IEP). Attends community based instructional activities to assist students in building life skills/vocational skills. Implements behavior intervention plans (BIP) when necessary. May assist with and care for personal needs of students, including bathroom assistance, diapering, feeding and changing. Additionally, may provide assistance with physical transitions into wheelchairs, physical therapist equipment and/or on and off the bus. Other responsibilities as needed and determined by the Special Education Office.
