Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking an Instructional Assistant for Special Education. In elementary, middle, or high schools, you will support teachers with IEPs, adapt materials, and help implement behavioral plans.

The role requires confidentiality, teamwork, and the ability to work with diverse learners. CPI certification is provided, and some duties may include one-to-one support and adaptation of assistive technologies.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED.
• Six semester hours in early childhood education or two years work experience in early childhood setting.
• Maintain CPI certification (training provided by WCPSS).
• CPR and First Aid certification preferred; experience with individuals with special needs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Support teachers in coordinating instructional programs for special education students and IEPs.
• Assist with strategies for implementing behavioral intervention plans.
• Prepare materials and ensure resources are available for lessons.
• Maintain confidentiality and document student-related records.
• Participate in district staff development and professional growth.
• Assist with student transitions between classes and health care needs.
• Support use of assistive technology and AAC devices in class.
• One-on-one instructional support for a student with severe needs (SATA).
