Job summary

Waco ISD invites applications for an Aide – Special Education to support teachers in implementing IEPs and maintaining an orderly classroom. The role emphasizes assisting with reading, writing, and math instruction for students with disabilities, under supervision.

The aide will help with materials, supervision in various settings, and data collection while ensuring FERPA compliance and professional communication with families and staff.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Implement and progress monitor student IEPs under the direction of the Special Education teacher.
• Assist teacher in preparing instructional materials.
• Help maintain a neat and orderly learning environment.
• Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.
• Collect data daily, keep administrative records, and prepare required reports under the direction of the Special Education teacher.
• Assist students with physical needs, including transferring to and from wheelchairs, lifting, or positioning, under the direction of the Special Education teacher.
• Assist students with personal care needs, including feeding, bathroom needs, and personal hygiene, under the direction of the Special Education teacher.
• Manage student behavior, to include implementation of behavior intervention plans and research-based behavioral interventions as directed by the Special Education teacher.
• Under the supervision of a certified teacher or campus administrator, intervene in crisis situations and physically restrain students, within District approved procedures, as necessary for staff and student safety.
• Establish and maintain appropriate communication and professional relationships with parents, students, colleagues, and community members.
• Assist in supervising special education students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom. This may include cafeteria, bus, and recreational areas
• Maintain confidentiality to comply with FERPA regulations
• Participate in staff development training programs, faculty meetings, and special events as assigned.
• Perform other duties related to Special Education as assigned.
