Job summary

Portland Public Schools seeks a dedicated Special Education Ed Tech III / Behavioral Health Professional to support students with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and/or other neurodevelopmental disabilities at Talbot Community School.

Under the supervision of the School Principal, the Ed Tech / BHP assists the Special Education Teacher by performing a variety of tasks that promote student learning, positive behavioral interventions and safety.

Qualifications

• Approval as Educational Technician III by the Maine Department of Education; includes eligibility or certification requirements.
• Preference given to candidates with a college degree including nine credit hours related to education (e.g., behavior management, classroom strategies) and at least one year of structured experience with students.

Responsibilities

• Provides specially designed instruction to students with IEPs.
• Implements lesson plans and follows schedules set by the special education teacher.
• Maintains data collection and supports behavioral intervention plans (BIPs) and ITPs.
• Assists in crisis intervention and uses de-escalation techniques as appropriate.
• Collaborates with related service providers (speech, OT, PT, social work) to support student needs.
