Job summary

The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools seeks an Exceptional Children Teacher Assistant to support the assigned EC teacher, help students progress toward IEP goals, and provide access to general education as needed.

Responsibilities include supervising students in classrooms, halls, cafeteria, school yards, and gymnasiums; preparing materials; documenting progress; and assisting with transportation duties under the direction of the principal.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree or 48 credit hours, or WorkKeys and 96 hours of in-service training.
• Completion of NC DOL Teacher Assistant Apprenticeship Program.
• One year working with EC children preferred.
• Equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Assist children individually or in small groups to reinforce learning concepts.
• Supervise students in classrooms, halls, cafeterias, school yards, and gymnasiums.
• Document progress toward IEP goals.
• Prepare lesson materials and classroom displays.
• Assist with attendance procedures and record keeping.
• Participate in transportation duties for arrival and departure.
• Provide physical assistance and support as needed.
