Job summary

Portage Public Schools is seeking a Paraprofessional - ESI (Special Education) at Portage North Middle School. Work 7.5 hours per day, Monday through Friday, from 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM.

The role provides instructional and non-instructional support to special education students in the least restrictive environment. Under teacher direction, you may liaise with staff, assist with IEPs and conferences, reinforce instruction, and supervise during non-instructional periods.

Qualifications

• High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
• The equivalent of 2 years of college (60 semester credits) or an Associate's degree or higher OR the successful completion of the MDE approved Paraprofessional standards test (ETS).
• Experience working with children.
• Demonstrated abilities in interpersonal communication.
• A high degree of patience, ability and willingness to learn new skills and take direction.

Responsibilities

• Assist teacher during the lesson by finishing assignment instructions.
• Work with individuals or small groups on follow-up activities.
• Record data on student performance.
• Remove and put on outer clothing for arrival, recess and dismissal times.
• Assist in lifting and positioning student and related tasks.
• Supervise playground and offsite activities for safety.
• Observe students and chart behavior; assist with behavior modification as needed.
• Administer and score tests as directed.
• Monitor student independence in daily living skills.
• Support during non-instructional periods such as snack, lunch, study hall, and bathroom breaks.
