Job summary

Portage Township Schools is hiring an Instructional Assistant-SPED for Central Elementary in Portage, Indiana. The role involves assisting SPED teachers, tutoring students, managing classroom tasks, and supervising students in various settings.

Qualifications

• Must have at least a high school diploma and meet one of the listed educational options.
• Experience supporting SPED students is desirable but not required.
• Ability to complete required training within 2 months of employment.

Responsibilities

• Tutor individuals and small groups as directed by the teacher.
• Facilitate student tasks in activity centers.
• Read to children and listen to children read.
• Assist in preparing AV, media and technology for instructional use.
• Help supervise children in and out of the classroom.
• Assist the classroom teacher with clerical tasks.
• Maintain confidentiality of student information at all times.
• Provide indoor and outdoor supervision for playground and cafeteria.
• Perform other duties as assigned by the principal.

Education

Associates degree or higher

Two years of college (48 credit hours)

ParaPro Assessment score 460

Child Development Associate (CDA) credential

Complete 10 Paraeducator training modules within 2 months
