Qualifications

  • Must have a high school diploma or GED and 48 semester hours of credit from a four-year college/university or an associate's degree.
  • Passed the Work Keys Test as mandated by the Alabama State Department of Education.
  • Must meet the suitability criteria under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Responsibilities

  • Performs academic, therapeutic, and recreational tasks under the supervision of a certified special education teacher(s).
  • Works with small groups to reinforce material and re-teach when necessary.
  • Assists in routine classroom clerical and housekeeping duties.
  • Assists with preparing instructional aids, bulletin boards, and learning displays.
  • Assists with non-instructional classroom duties such as snack, personal hygiene, and clothing needs.
