Job summary

Tuscaloosa City Schools is seeking a Special Education Teacher to support students with instructional exceptionality on-site in Alabama. You will administer assessments, help coordinate IEPs, and partner with regular education staff to implement individualized strategies.

You will maintain student progress records, communicate with families and support agencies, and participate in professional development to meet state certification guidelines.

Qualifications

• Demonstrate knowledge of student behavior in the area of exceptionality and related policies.
• Interpret assessment data, group students, and develop instructional strategies.
• Communicate effectively to students, parents, support agencies and staff for IEPs.
• Maintain physical and emotional ability to perform duties in a fast-paced setting.

Responsibilities

• Administers educational achievement tests to assess competencies and needs.
• Assesses needs in transition and related services.
• Schedules annual IEP meetings and coordinates related services.
• Develops IEP goals and timelines with staff and families.
• Employs varied instructional techniques to meet individual needs.
• Monitor participation and provide remediation materials as needed.
• Participate in IEP meetings and input documentation.
• Evaluate progress according to the IEP.
• Attend workshops and conferences to maintain growth and certification.
• Maintain records and submit required reports.
• Establish and maintain appropriate student behavior for learning.
• Communicate with students, families, agencies and staff about progress.
• Collaborate with staff on goals, objectives and curriculum development.
• Assume other duties as assigned by supervisor.
