Tuscaloosa City Schools is seeking a Special Education Aide to support certified special education teachers at Tuscaloosa Magnet Elementary and Middle Schools. The role involves assisting with classroom duties, small-group instruction, and various auxiliary tasks to support student learning.

Qualifications include a high school diploma or GED with 48 semester hours or an associate degree, passing Work Keys, and meeting Alabama Child Protection Act requirements.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED and 48 semester hours of credit from a four-year college and/or an associate's degree.
• Passed the Work Keys Test as mandated by the Alabama State Department of Education.
• Must meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.

Responsibilities

• Performs academic, therapeutic, and recreational tasks under the supervision of a certified special education teacher(s).
• Works with small groups of students to reinforce and re-teach material initially introduced by the teacher(s).
• Works with individual students who need special attention.
• Assists in the guidance of independent study, enrichment work, remedial help, and follow-up work as specified by the teacher(s).
• Assists the teacher(s) with students in rote memorization, reading and storytelling activities as appropriate.
• Assists the teacher(s) by checking student notebooks and daily written and oral assignments.
