Job summary

Seattle Public Schools seeks a Special Education Assistant/ISE-203 to support supervision, care and instruction of students with special needs in regular or self-contained classrooms. You will assist in implementing instructional plans and monitoring behavior, and attend IEP meetings.

This Preschool Development assignment requires diapering and close collaboration with teachers, families, and staff to adapt activities and maintain student records across diverse settings.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent and required paraeducator credentials.
• Education Testing Service paraeducator assessment credentials.
• Associate degree or higher or equivalent college credits.
• 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher.
• Completion of a paraeducator apprenticeship program.

Responsibilities

• Adapts classroom activities under teacher direction to provide opportunity for all special education students to participate.
• Administers materials and assignments to assist the teacher in evaluating progress and organizing individual needs.
• Administers first aid and medical assistance as required to care for injured children.
• Assists students needing support in addressing personal care needs due to medical conditions.
• Attends meetings and in-service trainings to learn and share job-related information.
• Confers with teachers on progress and implementing IEP objectives.
• Confers with teachers and parents to provide progress information.
• Directs and implements behavioral plans for students with behavior disorders.
• Instructs students in activities to reinforce instructional objectives and remediation goals.
• Maintains instructional materials and student records for availability and accuracy.
• Monitors students across environments to ensure safety and positive learning.
