Job summary

West Virginia K-12 Jobs is seeking an Instructional Aide/Bus Aide for a Special Education Self-Contained Classroom serving SSHS and SJHS students. The role combines instructional support with bus supervision to ensure student access to education and safe transportation.

The ideal candidate will meet WV and Boone County requirements, complete background checks, and work 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. under the direction of the classroom teacher and administrator.

Qualifications

• Meet all qualifications and requirements established by West Virginia law and Boone County Schools for the aide classification.
• Hold or obtain any required certification, training, or testing for the position.
• Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students with disabilities.
• Demonstrate patience, dependability, professionalism, and appropriate interpersonal skills.
• Be physically capable of assisting students with mobility, positioning, personal care, and other needs with/without accommodation.
• Maintain student confidentiality and comply with special education requirements.
• Successfully complete required background checks, training, and other employment requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist the special education teacher with instructional activities and IEP goals.
• Provide individual and small-group instructional support under supervision.
• Assist students with academic, behavioral, communication, social, functional, and daily living skills.
• Support participation in classroom activities, related arts, meals, transitions, and assemblies.
• Assist with behavior plans and positive behavior-support strategies.
• Monitor students to maintain a safe, structured learning environment.
• Assist with mobility, personal-care tasks, and use of adaptive equipment when required.
• Collect and maintain student data as directed by staff.
• Prepare instructional materials and maintain an organized classroom.
