Job Summary

McLean Hospital’s Arlington School is an exceptional, nationally recognized college preparatory high school that integrates strong academics with clinical support for students with mental health issues that can interfere with their education. Arlington School students are likely to have:

Social and emotional issues—including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, trauma, ADD/ADHD, and other mental health or medical diagnoses—that affect their academic productivity and self-esteem

Complex learning styles

Disrupted educational experiences related to school absence

Summary

Responsible for the academic planning of the school, student guidance, and curriculum coordination with the local school districts, as well as working closely with students' families. This individual works with the superintendents, school districts, and the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and plays an essential role in the marketing, development of mission, and growth of enrollment in the school.

Essential Functions

Clarifies School policies and procedures to assist school districts, parents, students and clinicians to understand the educational program of the school and provide educational information that is necessary.

  • Assists the Director/ Head of School in developing and marketing the mission of the school while growing enrollment.
  • Assists the Director/Head of School in the integration and synthesis of clinical and academic components of the program.
  • Maintains a key role in the admissions committee and takes a lead role in organizing student record reviews, on-site interviews of student candidates, their families and referral personnel.
  • Fosters the development and implementation of the Curriculum needed to fulfill IEPs.
  • Provides educational supervision to staff and faculty, including annual appraisals, as well as educational supervision to students. To include oversight of progress reports, grading, credits and transcripts conforming to district requirements.
  • Coordinate and oversee MCAS testing.
  • Maintains a formal educational and physical education program for all students.
  • Provides training for all staff & faculty on the educational aspects of program-specific procedures.
  • Provides a curriculum that is fully aligned with the Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks.
  • Works with Director/Head of School to develop DESE Annual and Mid-cycle review compliance.

Master's Degree Special Education required or Graduate Certificate Special Education required

Teacher, Special Education [Massachusetts License] - Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education required

Experience

  • Experience with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Working knowledge of UKG time entry & Workday is preferred.
  • Good Communication skills (telephone, interactions with parents/guardians, insurance companies, outside agencies and co-workers).
  • Ability to work in high action atmosphere.
  • Ability to interact with students and parents/family members.
