Job summary

IDEA Public Schools in Texas is seeking a Special Education Co-Teacher to gain hands-on experience with students who have cognitive and/or pervasive developmental disabilities. The role emphasizes a functional curriculum and collaboration with general education peers in a K-12 setting.

This position supports students in daily living and vocational skills, with a low student-teacher ratio and opportunities to advance educationally. Bachelor's degree is preferred and 48 college hours are required.

Qualifications

• Education: At least 48 college hours required; bachelor’s degree preferred
• Experience: Experience working with children with cognitive and/or pervasive developmental disabilities strongly preferred
• Licenses or Certifications: Willingness to pursue a Special Education teaching certification preferred, IDEA Certification Program available

Responsibilities

• Assist in the educational and social development of students under the direction of the facilitator and classroom teachers
• Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans for the students and monitor their progress
• Provide support for individual students inside and outside of the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
• Work with professionals such as speech therapist, social worker, occupational and physical therapists
• Assist classroom teachers with maintaining student records
• Support students with emotional or behavior concerns and develop appropriate social skills
• Assist with daily living activities in Life Skills Unit
• At some campuses, assist with school bus riding before or after school
