Job summary

CHOC Children’s is seeking an Interpreter/Translator to provide oral interpretation and written translation for non-English speaking patients and their families. You will act as a cultural liaison between staff and families to ensure family-centered care within a hospital environment.

The role requires knowledge of medical terminology and the ability to speak, read, write, and understand English and the target language at a professional level, with formal interpreter training and examinations.

Qualifications

• Minimum one (1) year of experience interpreting and translating medical documents.
• Formal training in interpretation and translation (medical interpreter training).
• Language proficiency examinations (written and oral) required.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is required.
• Ability to speak, read, write and understand English and the target language at a professional level.
• Ability to provide sight translations and consecutive interpretation is required or preferred.
• Must be able to promote professionalism and customer service.

Responsibilities

• Interpret and translate orally for non-English speaking patients and families, and healthcare team members.
• Serve as cultural liaison between staff and families to ensure family-centered care.
• Assist with translating written materials as needed.
