Job summary

Duke Regional Hospital seeks a Medical Interpreter to support non-English speaking patients within the Duke Health system. The PRN role requires delivering accurate interpretation and translation, ensuring the patient’s questions and care details are clearly communicated.

Responsibilities include maintaining records, providing on-call coverage, and upholding patient confidentiality while collaborating with the International Patient Center.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; must complete conversation/translation competency testing in a secondary language.
• Knowledge of medical terminology is required; prior health care interpretation experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpreter services and convey exact messages between Duke staff and patients/visitors.
• Maintain accurate daily records and documentation in the program database.
• Participate in on-call coverage for interpretation during non-business hours as needed.
