Job summary

Duke University Hospital in Durham, NC, seeks an interpreter/medical escort to support non-English-speaking patients across care settings. You will convey exact messages, coordinate with staff, and ensure accurate documentation and timely communication of care plans.

On-call translation/interpretation and adherence to confidentiality are required; a valid NC driver’s license supporting Duke van operations is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent with translation competency testing.
• Knowledge of medical terminology.

Responsibilities

• Provide interpretation, translation, and medical escort services to assist non-English-speaking patients.
• Serve as a neutral information conduit between Duke staff and patients/visitors.
• Ensure accurate communication of outpatient services, hospitalization, treatment plans, and follow-up appointments.
• Maintain daily records of service requests and outcomes.
• Participate in on-call coverage to provide interpretation/translation during non-business hours.
• Maintain confidentiality and follow policies and procedures.
