Job summary

Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children's Hospital of Chicago is seeking a bilingual interpreter/translator to support diverse families in a pediatric care environment.

Bachelor's degree preferred; Spanish language abilities required; experience in health care or interpretation preferred. You will identify interpretation needs, provide medical interpreting and translation for discharge instructions, collaborate with the care team, advocate for language access, maintain accurate encounter statistics, and

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree preferred.
• Experience in multi-cultural or health care setting, and experience with interpretation or translation preferred.
• Spanish language abilities and skills, written and verbal, required.

Responsibilities

• Identifies, assesses and responds to child/ family interpretation needs; understands that this occurs within the broader healthcare context and within the familial context of developmental needs, psychosocial needs, cultural needs and spiritual needs.
• Provides medical interpreting services and translation services for discharge instructions.
• Communicates with members of the health care team to provide optimal services to patients and families.
• Advocates for the language needs of families throughout the continuum of care.
• Keeps accurate stats of all patient encounters.
• Assists with triaging immediate interpreter needs and dispatching interpreters.
• Performs job functions adhering to service principles with customer service focus of innovation, service excellence and teamwork to provide the highest quality care and service to our patients, families, co-workers and others.
