Job summary

The position requires a High School Diploma, 3+ years of professional interpretation, and certification progress (CMI or CCHI preferred).

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required.
• Pass Language Proficiency test required, 40 hours interpreter training specifically related to healthcare.
• Minimum of three years experience of professional language interpreter required.
• Certified Medical Interpreter (CMI) or Core Certification HealthCare Interpreter (CCHI) preferred.

Responsibilities

• Provide Spanish interpretation for patients and hospital staff using protocols and practice standards for medical Interpreters.
• Ability to convert a spoken message into its equivalent without adding, omitting, or changing the meaning in the target language.
• Speak, read and write Spanish and English fluently.
• Identify linguistic and cultural barriers to effective and clear communication for customers who are Limited English Proficient and whose primary language is not English.
• Responsible for participation in departmental and hospital programs for Quality Assessment and Improvement, identifying opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implementing actions as appropriate.
• Translate written material into Spanish as requested.
• When certified, interpreter should complete continuing education to maintain their certification credentials.
